Is Omega fish Oil good for you?

    • Fish oil is taken from the tissues of oily fish.
    • Fish oil is considered as a healthy diet because of the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) precursors to eicosanoids involved that diminish inflammation throughout the body.
    • Fish do not produce omega-3 fatty acids, but collect them by way of consuming microalgae that help producing omega-3 fatty acids. Fishes like herring and sardines and fatty predatory fish, eat their prey fish that have collected omega-3 fatty acids from microalgae.
    • Fishes like mackerel, lake trout, flounder, albacore tuna and salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids in excess, but as they are on number one position in food chain, these species can accumulate toxic substances. Thus FDA recommends limiting their consumption.
    • Experts believe taking fish oil (in any form) can regulate cholesterol in the body because fish oil contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids.
    • Despite cholesterol regulation omega-3 fatty acids also regulate body composition.
    • Preferred source of Omega-3 fatty acids is from fish’s body and not from the liver.
    • The liver and its products like cod liver oil of fish and animals like seals and whales also contain Omega-3 and are rich in Vitamin A.
    • The American Heart Association suggest the consumption of 1g of fish oil daily, particularly by eating fish, for patients who are diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
